Yet another one of the many Norfolk Villages dominated by the huge tower of its church, this small quiet village has its roots firmly in the past, with evidence of continuous settlement since the Bronze age. The village of Hindringham was actually mentioned in the will of a Saxon Bishop of North Elmham. The church of St. Martin stands on a rise in the centre of the village and one can just glimpse the sea at Stiffkey which is five miles away. A good base for those looking for a quiet place to retreat to at the end of the day yet near enough to local attractions for those looking for a varied range of activities and diversions. Although the village does not have a shop or a village pub, Binham under two miles away does. Binham village is dominated by Binham Priory a beautiful, atmospheric building surrounded by the ruins of its great monastery, in fields outside the village. Nearby is the Thursford Collection a must for Wurlitzer and traction engine enthusiasts with live entertainment and lots more. |
