In 1953 many of the old flint cottages were swept away out to sea and as a result new sea defences have been installed. These have taken the form of reefs, which have also resulted in calmer waters. Several old cottages still exist in the village and palling mill still stands in good repair though without cap or sails. Inside the 14th century church are boards on which are commemorated the gallant rescues carried out by the lifeboat men of Palling. The village has a well stocked shop, a post office and two pubs. About a mile outside Sea Palling is a farm shop where you can purchase all your fruit and vegetables. Nearby is the Broadland town of Stalham with its large supermarket. Rumour has it that one of the pubs is haunted by a
woman in grey clothing who is seen sitting on a window ledge. Also
by a strong smell of tobacco which suddenly descends and then just as
suddenly vanishes. For holiday accommodation in Sea Palling or closeby - self catering - holiday cottages - bed and breakfast look at our accommodation pages. |
