Sea Palling has fine sandy beaches backed by sand dunes all located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, a place to come for a lazy beach holiday. In 1953 many of the old flint cottages were swept away out to sea and as a result new sea defences have been installed.

Several old cottages still exist in the village and palling mill still stands in good repair though without cap or sails. Inside the 14th century church are boards on which are commemorated the gallant rescues carried out by the lifeboat men of Palling. The village has a well stocked shop, a post office and two pubs. About a mile outside Sea Palling is a farm shop where you can purchase all your fruit and veg.

Rumour has it that one of the pubs is haunted by a woman in grey clothing who is seen sitting on a window ledge.  Also by a strong smell of tobacco which suddenly descends and then just as suddenly vanishes.

Nearby is the town of Stalham with its large supermarket.  Here you will find a museum of the broads, down by Stalham staithe, where visitors can experience how broads people used to live.  There are exhibits including a vintage holiday cruiser, a traditional steam launch and gun punt complete with guns.  As well as information about the Norfolk wherries.

Slightly round the coast is Waxham Great Barn a historic 16th Century building which has recently undergone extensive restoration work, attached the barn are seasonal tea rooms. Beyond Waxham is Horsey Windpump built in 1912 to drain surplus water from agricultural land now acquired and restored by the National Trust.  From its top there are wonderful views.  Inland is the village of East Ruston where you will find the Old Vicarage garden.  This multi-faceted garden has been designed and created by Alan Gray and his partner Graham Robeson since 1986, when they returned to live in Norfolk full-time.
