Stanhoe Norfolk Holidays
A visitors guide to the small unspoilt village of Stanhoe in Norfolk, located just over six miles (10km) from the North Norfolk Coast.  Stanhoe is famous for its large pond frequented by ducks and geese.  The village has a local inn/pub The Crown sited close to the duck pond, which serves home cooked food.

Fashionable Burnham Market with all its range of interesting shops and eateries is just down the road.  For holiday provisions you will need to visit nearby Docking just two miles away where there is a small supermarket and a few other shops. The area around Stanhoe offers numerous activities including sailing, cycling, bird-watching and other leisure activities.

The remains of Creake Abbey, can be found on the outskirts of the neighbouring village of North Creake.  Founded in about 1206, by Sir Robert de Narford it was originally an almshouse for the poor, but in 1231 it was given the status of an Abbey of the Augustinian.

Further inland is the village of Syderstone, once home to Amy Roberts who married Robert Dudley, the favourite of Queen Elizabeth I.  She died at a young age of a broken neck and throughout history there has always been a lot of speculation as to whether she committed suicide or whether she was murdered by her husband who wanted to marry Elizabeth I. To learn more about her check out our Yesterday Pages.
