It was the local squire who in 1910 convinced the authorities to build a road to Acle bridge, which effectively resulted in this small riverside village being bypassed by the main road. This small riverside village is located on the River
Bure deep in the heart of Broadlands within an area known as the Broads
National Park. The Broads National Park is a wetland where fens,
waterways, woodlands, marshes, shallow lakes and rivers combine to
provide protected habitats for many plant and animal species. At
Stokesby there is a lovely tree lined village green with a small
childrens play area a shop and tearooms, as well as an old Inn right on
the riverbank. In summer months the small staithe becomes quite busy
with holiday makers in their yachts and launches mooring here.
Fishing licences and bait are available locally with boat hire available
two miles away. The place is surrounded by some of the most
beautiful and most important wetland countryside. |
