A visitors guide to the Norfolk village of Thursford. In the hinterland of Norfolk is an unusual museum called the Thursford Collection started by George Cushing, who was born in Thursford in 1904. After the Second World War when when all the farmers were scraping their old farm vehicles, George decided to start collecting them and nursing them back to health. He then went on in the mid 1950’s to collect old fairground organs and merry go rounds, all of which goes to make up this highly popular visitor attraction that we see today.

The Thursford Christmas show is the ultimate Christmas musical experience and brings in visitors from far and wide, book early if you wish to attend.

For eateries try the Crawfish on the edge of the village, a converted pub that serves Thai food and on the A149 is The Old Forge, seafood restaurant.

Seven miles on the A148 in one direction is the Georgian Town of Holt a place that attracts the discerning shopper with its antique and unusual gift shops. Additional attractions are the North Norfolk Steam Railway sited outside the main thoroughfare, accessed either by foot or bus, which will whisk you away to the seaside resort of Sheringham.  Taking the A148 in the other direction will bring you to the Market Town of Fakenham with its weekly auction, farmers market and Race Course. 

Heading to the coast (under 8 miles 13km) will bring you to Morston a popular place for boating enthusiasts, who sail the local waters from the quay. The seal population at Blakeney Point can be visited by boat from Morston. The boats leave daily at varying times, according to the tides.
