You would naturally assume that a village with a name like Monks Eleigh would have once been the home of monks.  However, this is not the case. Although the manor did once belong to the monks of Canterbury, they never resided here.

The attractive church of St. Peter is well worth a visit, with its buttresses and stair tower. The main road follows the meandering River Brett, with Swingleton Green on the opposite side and slightly higher up. In the village is Corn Craft  based on  traditional country craft, selling both gift and decorative craft items employing traditional methods in every aspect of their production.
