at the largest permanent display of original Unit and Station
badges.When a Unit is disbanded, or otherwise loses its identity the original painting of its Badge, signed by the Sovereign, are forwarded for safe custody to the Ministry of Defence Air Historic Branch (RAF). Should a Unit reform, the Badge will be returned on the written request of the commanding officer.
The Station badge opposite is related to the
origin of the name 'Neatishead', a word derived from the old Anglo
Saxon 'Nethes Hirda', meaning the The Station motto 'Caelum tuemur' - 'We watch over the sky' - highlights the activities of the personnel of the modern Royal Air Force Station in contrast to those of the inhabitants long ago. |
