A Registered Charity

Introduction Marvell at the largest permanent display of original Unit and Station badges.

When a Unit is disbanded, or otherwise loses its identity the original painting of its Badge, signed by the Sovereign, are forwarded for safe custody to the Ministry of Defence Air Historic Branch (RAF).

Should a Unit reform, the Badge will be returned on the written request of the commanding officer.

Dedicated to a former RAF Neatishead Commanding Officer, the Hobley Gallery contains a truly unique collection of original heraldic badges for now defunct Units and Stations.

The Station badge opposite is related to the origin of the name 'Neatishead', a word derived from the old Anglo Saxon 'Nethes Hirda', meaning the
'abode of the keeper of cattle'.

The Station motto 'Caelum tuemur' - 'We watch over the sky' - highlights the activities of the personnel of the modern Royal Air Force Station in contrast to those of the inhabitants long ago.
